Monica Maria Vesga Alfaro was born in Bogota, Colombia, and moved to the Bay Area as a teenager. She studied International Relations and Economics at Boston University focusing on the Andean Region of Latin America.

In May 2019, Monica graduated from UC Hastings College of the Law, with a concentration on International Law, receiving special recognition for her commitment to pro-bono work. During her time in law school, Monica was a staff editor in the International Law and Comparative Law Journal, and president and delegate to the Hastings to Haiti Partnership program. Monica’s academic interests range from civil litigation, immigration, economic development of the less developed world, and corporate accountability.

Monica is fluent in Spanish and English and is currently learning French and Arabic. In her spare time, Monica loves to cook, play the piano, and enjoys time with her dog Archibald.
