San Francisco Office Obtains Federal and State Tax Exemption Status for Charity Serving Disadvantaged Youth

Caron Stapleton and Candice Mullings Williams successfully incorporated and obtained federal and state tax exemption status for Tackling the Odds. Tackling the Odds’ incorporator and chief executive officer/president is Sam Williams, an NFL football player with the Oakland Raiders. As a professional athlete, Mr. Williams has been active in the community for many years. Mr. Williams’ community commitment has grown this past year in an effort to honor his friend, teammate, and community volunteer Marquis Cooper, who died in a boating accident off of the coast of Florida in March 2009. In November 2009, Mr. Williams established Tackling the Odds specifically to provide and enhance opportunities for children, with an emphasis on disadvantaged youth who are in need of support academically and/or athletically. With the assistance of Ms. Stapleton and Ms. Williams, Tackling the Odds is now a Section 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.
